Hand Washing Campaign Embraced at Sadili 8-Series Challenge 7

Image
It was yet another fantastic tournament at Sadili Oval as we hosted the 8-Series Challenge 7 on Saturday, 7 th October 2017. 59 kids drawn mainly from the Court of Dreams program and living in Kibera and Lang’ata’s Kijiji area gathered to showcase their skills at the half-day tournament.  The event kicked off at 9:00am and Sadili staff, who were also the organizers took charge as the referees. The young kids kept everyone entertained as they all clearly struggled to win. This particular tournament was out of the ordinary as Sadili staff set aside some time after playing to create awareness on proper hand washing habits. All the kids sat down with their coaches for a short but highly informative life skills session that touched on the importance of washing hands and the steps involved in hand washing. This was done in the spirit of the Global Hand Washing Day that is scheduled for October 15 th . “Many kids in the Court of Dreams program already know how to wash their hands, but t...

Sadili's Girl Power Cubs Africa uses Sports to Celebrate Peace One Day

Image
It is common knowledge that sport as a universal language can be used as a powerful tool to convey a message of peace. In honour of the 2016 International Day of Peace, Sadili’s Girl Power Clubs Africa on Saturday 17 th September held a sports day that saw 62 Girl Power Club members from St. Catherine’s and Nazarene Primary schools assemble at Sadili grounds to play, learn important life skills and celebrate peace. With the theme ‘conflict resolution’, the day started with an insightful and interactive 3 hour forum that was led by Ms. Everlyne Sigilai, Mr. Kevin Ayuko and Sr. Gloria Ozuruoke who are social educators at Sadili. In this forum the girls learnt about the history of Peace One Day and its relevance in today’s world.  The forum also provided a platform for the girls to freely discuss the types of conflicts they have found themselves in, how they resolved the conflicts and the steps they have taken to avoid such situations. The girls also presented attention-grabbing short...

The EA Safari Junior Tennis Camp at Sadili Oval Sports Academy is much more than just a sports camp; it’s also a friendship-forming and character-building experience that leaves participants wishing for more at the end of it. The 2016 edition came to a close on Wednesday 18 th August. Here’s what some of the participants had to say about their experiences. Nina Saitoti, Age: 16, Nairobi – More than just great training Nina started playing tennis at the age of 13, but until the Smashers Challenge on 14 th August 2016, she had never participated in any tournament. This was her first time at the Safari Junior Tennis camp. This is what she had to say:  “I came to know of the tennis camp through Sadili’s website of which I’m a regular visitor. The moment I knew it would be happening, I did not hesitate to sign up because I have always wanted to improve my skills in tennis. Before I came, all I pictured was some good tennis training, but I got more than just that.   Everyone I met...

There was a fabulous turn out (43 boys and girls) for Sadili 8-Series Junior Tennis Challenge for U6, U8, U10 and U12 on Saturday, 9 th July 2016. The weather thankfully stayed dry and the kids put on a brilliant display of tennis and sportsmanship at the event.
